It’s been a little over a week since we launched makemeamerica.com for Stephen Colbert, and by way of an update, here are a few points of interest:
- You can now see Stephen’s delightful visage on several top CSS Galleries. We thank you for that, CSS Galleries. America thanks you.
- There have been over 4300 Oprah book club petition signatures.
- As of this morning, the World Domination map is open for business outside the confines of the United States border. Time to conquer the world!
Speaking of international support, check out Canada — they sure are organized up there:

The international support is not working correctly. I’ve had a difficult time getting “Köln†in there. Neither “Cologne” not “Köln, Germany” or “50676, Germany” worked. Finally I succeeded if I select “Inside US†and enter “Koelnâ€.
It was in there before!
Also, UTF-8 support has gone away.
Other than that, great great page! I love it!
Flash-less, yet gorgeous. Great functionality and gimmicks. A++!

Hello Mr. Yeti,
Thanks for pointing that out. We’re looking into it right now. We’ll send you a note once we make a couple tweaks.
Thanks for the compliments too!

Great site - just wondering how to successfully upload a video to the “videobook” section. I can get as far as selecting my file and hitting the “upload” button, but then nothing happens. Wish there were contact information on the site somewhere so that I could figure out what the problem is (do I need a certain type of movie file? does the file have to be a certain size? etc.)

Mr. Yeti,
We’ve corresponded via email, but I wanted to respond here too for other readers. The problem has been fixed.
Lisa,
Can you send us an email with your username on the site so we can track down your problem?

Lisa, thanks for your email.
Just so everybody knows, we’ve raised the limit on file uploads to 50meg, and we’re adding a contact link to the site so communication can be more direct.
Thanks everyone for the feedback.

I appear to have forgotten my password — can you guys add a button (and all the magic that goes with it) that would send forgotten passwords to the user’s e-mail??
Sorry!! I guess I just got too excited by the whole thing.
Thanks!

Hey - I’m not sure who to contact about this, but there’s no contact link on the site yet, so …. I submitted a video excerpt to the website the weekend after the book came out, and although the page has reverted back to “Have the book? Get an assignment!” my video isn’t there, and I never got an email or anything telling me it didn’t fit requirements, was unapproved, etc. Should I resubmit? If so, how? (username is stellardust at makemeamerica.com, and if it helps, this was my assignment: Page 187, (Insert: Stephen Speaks for Me), paragraph 5, sentences 1-6 Starts with “Let,” ends with “Deb.”)

Hello Stellar_dust,
Sounds like your video uploaded correctly. The reason it didn’t show up right away is because the video is being reviewed and transcoded for inclusion on the site. It’ll take a bit. The contact link is going up right now.
